Australia head coach Andrew McDonald accused India of intimidating 19-year-old opener Sam Konstas with the way in which guests surrounded him on the finish of Day 1 of the fifth Take a look at in an intimidating celebration. The incident came about on the final ball of Day 1, when younger Konstas, who has repeatedly gotten below the pores and skin of the guests since making his debut within the fourth Take a look at, was concerned in an animated chat with skipper Jasprit Bumrah earlier than the Indian spearhead went on to dismiss Usman Khawaja on the very subsequent supply.
A pumped-up Bumrah gave a fiery send-off as a substitute to Konstas, with the Indian fielders becoming a member of in, because the guests’ had some cheers on the finish of a tricky day.
“My conversation to him (Konstas) was just around whether he’s okay. Clearly, the way that India celebrated was quite intimidating. It’s clearly within the Laws of the Game, within the rules and regulations – there’s been no charges laid.
“However to have an opposition clearly swarm the non-striker like that – we have an obligation care to our participant to ensure he is okay and in a head area to exit the following day and carry out. In order that’s all these conversations have been,” said McDonald in the post-day press conference.
Andy Pycroft, the ICC match referee who levelled the fine on Kohli in Melbourne, after the Indian great charged his shoulder at debutant Konstas, is also overseeing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series finale and did not charge Bumrah or any other Indian player after the side swarmed around the 19-year old.
McDonald stated that the ICC’s decision not to level any fines or charges against the Indians makes their response acceptable and sets the benchmark for his side.
“It is clear that it is acceptable as a result of there have been no fines or punishments. I am going to go away that as much as the ICC and clearly Andy Pycroft being the match referee and the umpires on the market. In the event that they thought that it was passable, then I suppose that is the benchmark we’re taking part in amongst,” he added.
